Opportunities for membership in fire company are open to men and women of at least 18 years of age. We also have an active Explorer program for those who are interested in the learning about the fire service. To be eligible for the explorer program, you must be at least 14 years of age and have passing school grades.
All residents who wish to join the fire company must complete a Fire District Application. Along with this application, will be a background check and a physical. You will also be subject to a company interview process where the rules and regulations of the fire company will be explained. All new members will serve at least a one-year probationary period upon acceptance into the Fire Company.
MEDICAL PHYSICAL/BACKGROUND CHECK
All new members must receive a physical examination and a background check prior to being accepted by the Hazlet Township Board of Fire Commissioners as fit to participate in firematic duties. Both will be provided free of charge from the Board of Fire Commissioners.
Prior to attending the academy, the probationary member will be trained by the WKFC line officers on Company procedures and all academy related preparation. They will then attend an extensive training program through a NJ state approved fire academy. This training is provided at no expense to the trainee. The training consists of several weeknights of classroom sessions and a day on the weekend during the training period.
